Facebook Spotlights Fight Against Ebola in Users' News Feeds

MENLO PARK, Calif. (CBS) -- After donating $25 million of his own money to fight the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is inviting members of the social network to join the battle.

In a blog post today, Facebook has announced three new initiatives in support of those affected by Ebola.

The social network has added a new "donate" button that will appear at the top of every user's news feed over the next week, with an option to directly contribute to the funds of one of three nonprofit organizations working in West Africa (the Red Cross, International Medical Corps, and Save the Children).

Facebook will also push awareness-raising UNICEF messages to the news feeds of people in the West African countries most affected by Ebola, as well as donating 100 mobile satellite communication terminals to provide voice and data services where they are most lacking.
