Excessive Exercise Can Be Harmful

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- I am a huge fan of exercise, but sometimes too much can be a problem.

Do you know the phrase, "everything in moderation?" Well, that phrase is very true when it comes to exercise.

Slowly building to a reasonable goal is not only healthy but wise advice for physical and mental outlook.

But what about endurance athletes? They are definitely going beyond moderation and there are concerns. For instance, you are more likely to have overuse injuries; things like tendonitis, patellofemoral pain syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and stress fractures. You get the idea. A lot of wear and tear.

Clearly, there is a compelling argument that high intensity exercise and endurance events can have a positive impact on health with appropriate conditioning and athletic gear, but there is no doubt there are clear risks associated with this and you should use common sense.
