Ex-NJ Teacher Sentenced For Touching, Texting Student

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) — A former high school music teacher has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually touching and texting a teenage student seven years ago.

David Scheck of North Brunswick will also have to register as a sex offender under the sentence imposed Friday. He had pleaded guilty in May to criminal sexual contact and official misconduct charges, just as his trial was due to start in Morris County.

At the time the incidents occurred, Scheck was a 24-year-old music teacher and band director for West Morris Central High School in Washington Township. The victim was a 15-year-old female student.

The now 31-year-old Scheck, who now lives in North Brunswick, will have to serve two years of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole.
