Danelo Cavalcante back in custody after 14-day manhunt

SOUTH COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Pa., (CBS) -- The Owen J. Roberts School District announced Wednesday afternoon they can finally reopen now that the escaped inmate from the Chester County Prison, Danelo Cavalcante, has been apprehended by police.

In an email to the school district community, Superintendent Will Stout thanked local law enforcement for their bravery and perseverance in catching Cavalcante after a 14-day manhunt.

"We want to re-emphasize our sincere appreciation to our brave police and law enforcement officers for everything they do to ensure the safety of our school community. After discussions with state and local law enforcement, I am also happy to share that all schools and offices in our district will reopen tomorrow morning, with classes and transportation continuing as regularly scheduled," the email said in part.

Beginning Wednesday afternoon, high school athletic and extracurricular programs can resume practices and activities. However, any sports games that were scheduled for Wednesday will remain canceled, officials said.

Middle school athletics and extracurricular programs are also still canceled for Wednesday but will resume again Thursday.

Stout also encouraged parents to reassure their children about safety with going back to school.

"They might feel nervous or worried - and that's normal. Many helpers and trusted adults are available if anyone needs to talk. In addition, we will have counseling available to any student at our school wishing to speak with a trained professional. We also want to provide a list of helpful resources for families who may be seeking strategies to engage with their children about what has transpired," the email stated in part.

The district is located in South Coventry Township.
