Energy Company Ends Call For Conservation As Strain On The Grid Subsides

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The company that manages the power grid for the Philadelphia region says things are returning to normal.
The call for conservation came from Valley Forge based PJM Interconnection, which manages the power grid for about 61-million people.
It was to expire last night, but was extended through the morning, says spokesman Ray Dotter:
"But we're seeing an improvement in the power supply, and with temperatures not as cold throughout the day, and improving throughout the week," he said. "We think the power supply will be in good shape."
Dotter says they saw a winter record set last night, and just the amount they broke the record by -- 5,000 megawatts -- would have been enough power a small city.
