Ed Rendell: Fattah Should Resign
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell thinks Philadelphia Congressman Chaka Fattah should resign after being convicted of federal corruption charges.
Rendell, while speaking with Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, said he believes Fattah should step down, but pointed out there are statutes in place allowing him to continue the appeals process.
"I think he should resign. But, I think after the decision, it's not legally binding. The Congress has rules. There are certain things that he can't do anymore in Congress, but he's allowed to continue serving until his appeals are adjudicated."
He stated he hates to see any public servant commit these type of crimes, because it damages the faith in government on the whole.
"Anytime any public official is found guilty of corruption charges, it's a very difficult thing for me because it cast aspersions on all politicians. People are fond of say they're all crooks. Of course, we're not all crooks anymore than all priests are crooks or all radio personalities are crooks or all corporate CEO's are crooks. There are bad politicians and they deserve to be caught, apprehended, convicted and put in prison. I assume that's what will happen to Congressman Fattah."
