Ed Marynowitz On Trading Up For Mariota: 'Never Say Never'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- There's no way the Eagles can move up from No. 20 in the NFL draft, in order to select quarterback Marcus Mariota. It will cost them way too much. It will never happen.

However, Marynowitz reiterated what Chip Kelly has been saying all along. The Eagles do not want to "mortgage the future" for one player.

"I think the goal is, of any draft, is to get good football players," Marynowitz said. "And we view it as, every pick is an opportunity to improve your football team. So, the more picks that you have the more opportunities you have to get great players. Certainly, if there's a great player that's up there and it makes sense, from a compensation perspective, we'll look at those avenues as well.

"Philosophically, we have eight picks right now. We'd like to make eight picks or more, not less."

CSNPhilly.com's Geoff Mosher was impressed with Marynowitz, 30, in his first appearance among a large media contingency.

"Thought he handled himself well," Mosher said of Marynowitz. "I thought he was prepared for it, he wasn't nervous. He answered questions really candidly. He didn't have a political spin about it either, I'll say."
