A Philadelphia man has been charged after a 5-year-old boy injured himself accidentally firing a gun while at a home in Feltonville on Saturday, according to police.

Philadelphia police said the boy went to a home on the 500 block of East Thelma Street with his 21-year-old sister Saturday night.

Investigators said just after 8 p.m., while they were at the home, the 5-year-old found a gun and fired it, accidentally injuring his left hand in the process.

Officers were already at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children when the boy arrived with a laceration to his left hand, police said.

A 24-year-old man inside the home on East Thelma Street at the time the gun was fired was detained by police, authorities previously said.

In an update Monday, police identified the 24-year-old as Nasir Baskerville, who's charged with possessing an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering another person and tampering with evidence.

The investigation is still ongoing.
