Shooting in West Oak Lane kills 12-year-old boy, police say

A 17-year-old is charged with third-degree murder after a 12-year-old was shot and killed in Philadelphia's West Oak Lane section on Saturday, police said.

Philadelphia police went to the 1500 block of East Pastorius Street for the shooting just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers arrived to find a 12-year-old boy, who police identified as Ethan Parker, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Police brought Parker to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 1 p.m.

On Saturday, Inspector D F Pace with the Philadelphia Police Department said a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old were upstairs recording a music video with Parker in the home at the time of the shooting. Pace said one of those individuals was handling a loaded gun that went off. At least one adult was downstairs at the time of the shooting, according to Pace.

In an update on Sunday, police said the 17-year-old boy was charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and related charges in connection with the shooting.

Police also recovered a fake gun and a BB gun in addition to the gun that was fired.

Philadelphia police are still actively investigating the incident. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call PPD's tipline at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
