Eagles Release Head Coach Chip Kelly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Eagles announced the release of Head Coach Chip Kelly on Tuesday afternoon.

The team announced that Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie made the move on Tuesday. "We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward," Lurie said in a statement released by the team.

The Eagles announced that Pat Shurmur will take over as the interim head coach as the Eagles wrap up the season on Sunday against the Giants.

Ed Marynowitz was also released of his duties as the VP of Player Personnel. Tom Donahoe will assume the role of Senior Director of Player Personnel. He has been a Senior Football Advisor for the Eagles since 2012.

Lurie will hold a press conference on Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex at noon.
