Eagles Host Healthy Food Drive

by Kristen Johanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Eagles have partnered with local pantries to collect healthy food for those who need it most.

Instead of dropping off a grocery bag full of canned goods to a food pantry, the Eagles Health Food Drive is trying to make it healthier & easier, using something similar to InstaCart.

"It is all donated through YouGiveGoods.com," said Tom Mahon with the Coalition Against Hunger.

The organization is leading the effort.

"People can choose exactly what they want to be donated to the food pantry," Mahon explained.

Including fresh foods and vegetables, which then are dropped off at a 'Green Light Pantry.'

"They are the only two food pantries in the city that provides only healthy and nutritious food," said Mahon.

He says Philadelphia has more people going hungry than the rest of the country

"Nationally, the numbers are about 1-in-7 people who face food insecurity, in Philadelphia, it's closer to 1," Mahon said.

You can visit the You Give Goods website to donate HERE.

The drive goes until November 30th.
