Report: Eagles, Cox 'Close To New Deal' Worth Over $50 Million Guaranteed

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Just like the fictional wide receiver Rod Tidwell -- played by Cuba Gooding Jr. -- once said in the 1996 film Jerry Maguire, 

"SHOW ME THE MONEY!"

Well, in this case, show Fletcher Cox the money. Cox and the Eagles are "close to a new deal" that could be worth over $50 million guaranteed with an average annual cap hit north of $15 million, according to an NJ.com report.

Cox, 25, is one of the best defensive lineman in the NFL and probably the Eagles' most valuable player. The 2015 Pro Bowler was the team's 12th overall pick in 2012 and --- barring a new deal --- is set to make about $8 million in 2016 before becoming a free-agent in 2017.

In four seasons, Cox has missed just one game. Last season, the 6-4, 300 pound defensive lineman recorded 71 total tackles, 9.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles --- all career highs.
