Eagles Continue To Battle Through Injuries, Issues

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles are 3-0 after an emotional win over Washington, but all is not smooth sailing for Chip Kelly's squad.

The team suffered another significant injury on its offensive line as Jason Kelce went down during Sunday's game. The center will need surgery for a sports hernia and will be out for an indefinite period of time. Kelly said he found out when he arrived at the Eagles practice facility on Monday. The coach didn't indicate the team would be looking to sign another center.

"I saw Kelce in the hallway," said Kelly. "He's going to have sports hernia surgery. I don't know how long he'll be out for. I haven't gotten the 'how long' so that's the biggest thing."

The injury came after a wild 37-34 win over Washington. The game featured a brawl which started after Nick Foles was hit hard by Washington Lineman Chris Baker. Many believed the hit was illegal, and Jason Peters went after Baker and was eventually ejected. Baker was also ejected and Kelly had no complaints with how the situation was handled.

"I don't control that," Kelly said. "It was a penalty, no question about it. You can't hit a defenseless player, so the referees called it the right way and he (Baker) was ejected from the game."

One Eagle who didn't seem to be in a celebratory mood after Sunday's game was Cary Williams. The cornerback indicated after the game he was unhappy with Kelly's practice regiment during the week. Kelly talked with Williams on Monday and did not indicate and dissatisfaction with the veteran.

"I know we ask our guys to run a lot during practice," said Kelly. "I met with Cary just a little while ago. I think he was frustrated. I understand that Cary's a competitor. I have no issues with Cary. We assess everybody daily and we monitor every player daily. It's all done on an individual basis."

Despite the injuries and issued addressed by Williams, the Eagles remain unbeaten on the young season. The question now it whether the team can continue with its winning ways as the injuries continue to mount. However, Kelly remains focused on working with who is healthy and suited up on game day.

"I don't have a level of concern," Kelly said. "Just tell us who we've got that's available to play and let's go play."

Kelly said Linebacker Mychal Kendricks remains day-to-day with a calf injury.
