Eagles' Backup QB Situation Ranked Best In NFL

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Everyone loves to pick on Mr. Butt Fumble. Reality is, however, Mark Sanchez is a solid NFL backup quarterback.

In fact, according to CBSSports.com's Sean Wagner-McGough, he may be the NFL's best backup.

Wagner-McGough ranked the Eagles' backup quarterback situation tops in all football, admitting Sanchez will compete for the starting QB gig with Sam Bradford.

"The Eagles are set up to succeed even if their starting quarterback goes down at some point in the 2015 season," Wagner-McGough wrote.

Last season, Sanchez filled in nicely for the Eagles starting eight games for the injured Nick Foles.

"Sanchez ended up playing in nine games and attempting 309 passes," wrote Wagner-McGough. "Of those 309 pass attempts, 64 percent resulted in completions. Sanchez also racked up a [career-high] 7.8 yards per attempt and threw for 14 touchdowns."

Sanchez's 268.7 yards per game average in 2014 was also a personal career-high.
