Eagles Address Defense On Final Day Of Draft

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Eagles upgraded their defense on the final day of the NFL draft by selecting two defensive backs and two defensive linemen.

The defending NFC East champions took Florida defensive back Jaylen Watkins in the fourth round, Oregon defensive lineman Taylor Hart and Stanford safety Ed Reynolds in the fifth round and Washington nose tackle Beau Allen in the seventh round.

The Eagles had the 29th-ranked defense last year while their offense set several franchise records. They improved their pass rush by choosing Louisville linebacker Marcus Smith in the first round.

Coach Chip Kelly also got a pair of wide receivers for his high-flying offense. Vanderbilt's Jordan Matthews and Oregon's Josh Huff were Philadelphia's picks in the second and third rounds.
