Pa. Teacher Who Appeared To Be Drunk & Passed Out On Desk Now On Leave, Banned After Removal From Classroom
NEWPORT, Pa. (AP) — A teacher who appeared to be passed out at his desk in a central Pennsylvania high school classroom has been placed on leave and banned from school grounds indefinitely.
Newport School District Superintendent Ryan Neuhard says state police were asked to investigate after "the teacher appeared to be intoxicated and was in possession of alcohol."
That happened at Newport High School in Perry County about 1 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the teacher was removed from the classroom by school administrators, and that students were taken to an unspecified "safe location."
State police say in a news release they planned to charge the teacher with endangering the welfare of children. The Associated Press was not identifying the 49-year-old man from Liverpool because the charges had yet to be filed Wednesday.
