New DRPA Chairman Is Bit Of A Break With Tradition

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- The Delaware River Port Authority has a new chairman, and while tradition keeps that position in Pennsylvania's control, the man with the gavel is not a gubernatorial appointee, at least for now.
Tom Corbett is no longer governor, prompting his appointee, former Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, to step down.
Governor Tom Wolf's staff asked Auditor-General Eugene DePasquale to take the top spot, given he's already on the board by virtue of his elected position. The move comes as the DRPA adopted a new mission statement, solidifying a commitment to the bridges and PATCO, and away from economic development.
"The timing is coincidental, but certainly myself and others have been pushing to make sure that that is reflected in the mission statement of the DRPA so we don't go back."
DePasquale is prepared to relinquish the chairmanship whenever Wolf is ready to fill the vacancy created by Cawley's resignation, if the new Governor wants that.
