Driver Killed After Car Slams Into Tree Along Roosevelt Boulevard

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One person was killed overnight after his vehicle crashed into a tree along Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound inner lanes near Ryan Avenue in the city's Mayfair section.

Police say the 40-year-old driver was trapped inside the car and had to be cut out of the vehicle.

He was rushed to Aria Torresdale Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The inner lanes of the Roosevelt Boulevard were blocked for hours in both directions between Ryan and Tyson Avenues as a result of the accident.

There was no initial word on what caused the crash.
