Driver ID'd, Charged In Deadly Hit-And-Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Authorities have identified the driver they say is responsible for the fatal hit-and-run that killed a wheelchair-bound woman and injured a teenager.

Twenty-nine-year-old Andrew Acito, of Glenolden has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle while DUI, Involuntary Manslaughter and Driving Under the Influence, among other related charges.

Police say Acito was driving a 2004 Ford F-250 white pick up truck when he struck and killed a 39-year-old woman as she sat in her wheelchair around 1:40 a.m. Saturday in the Fairhill section of the city. Investigators say Acito then hit an 18-year-old girl who was able to positively identify the vehicle that had struck them.

Both women were transported to the hospital. The 39-year-old woman, known as Elaine, later succumbed to her injuries.

The 18-year-old pedestrian was treated for minor injuries and released.
