Drexel Dedicates New Space For Medical Device Developers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Drexel University has dedicated a new "incubator space" for medical device developers adjacent to 30th Street Station in West Philadelphia.

PHL Next Stage Med is the local real estate company working with Drexel to attract specialty medical companies to commit to moving to the Innovation Neighborhood facility.

Adam Dakin is managing partner of Philadelphia-based Plexus, which pledged to make the space a major healthcare technology hub.

"We're basically consolidating lots of fragmented resources that an early-stage medical technology company needs access, too. But, until now there wasn't really a very efficient way to gain access to those resources," Dakin said.

Keith Orris, a Drexel vice-president for economic development, says it could become a win-win for graduates as well as those seeking internships.

"We see great potentials for actually adapting our co-ops to become customizable for the businesses who decide to join us here in this community," Orris said.
