Dozens Rally In Love Park Over Paris Violence

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Dozens of people are showing their sympathy for victims of attacks in and near Paris with a rally in downtown Philadelphia.

The event Friday evening in the city's Love Park included signs and at least a half-dozen French flags.

Participants say they're acting in solidarity with the victims and to support free expression.

University of Pennsylvania faculty member William Beltran says he was there to pay his respects for people who were killed in the act of expressing themselves. The violence began with a massacre at the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical newspaper.

The rally participants observed a moment of silence and spoke in hushed tones, at one point holding hands.

Three days of violent rampage in the French capital left 20 people dead, including three gunmen.
