Dover Air Force Base Resumes Normal Operations
DOVER, Del. (CBS) – Dover Air Force Base along Route 1 in Dover, Kent County was placed on lockdown around 11 a.m. Thursday.
According to the Air Force, a suspicious individual was reported near Building 706.
As a precautionary measure, officials implemented a base lockdown and instructed all personnel to shelter in place.
"The safety of our people is our top priority," said Col. Randy Huiss, 436th Airlift Wing vice wing commander. "We take this report very seriously and are taking the necessary precautions to investigate this matter."
No vehicles or personnel were allowed in or out of the base during the incident.
The base-wide lockdown was lifted around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday and normal base operations resumed.
"We apologize for any inconvenience and confusion this response may have caused," Col. Randy Huiss, 436th Airlift Wing vice wing commander said. "However, these measures were taken to ensure the safety of the base populace as we investigated the reports and found them to be false."
