"Don Giovanni is loosely based on a character, Don Juan, and it's really about one man's insatiable energy for sexual conquest and how that moves him into a place of doing things that he shouldn't do to other people," explains Opera Philadelphia President and General Director David Devan.

And he says this opera is not as heavy as it may sound.

"It has great comic moments, and it has very real and full dramatic moments woven together as only Mozart can do," Devan says.

Devan also boasts that a majority of the performers in this opera are home-grown.

"Out of all the principals, three trained at the Curtis Institute of Music and three trained at the Academy of Vocal Arts, and they are all enjoying national and international careers."
