Medical Examiner's Office Confirms Remains Found In Frankford Are Of Dog, Not Human

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Officials have confirmed remains found in Frankford are not human and are actually of a dog. Neighbors tell CBS3 they were shaken up after sanitation crews found what they believed was a human's body.

This all started around just after 8 a.m. Thursday on the 5700 block of Harbison Avenue, near Van Kirk Street.

That's when Philadelphia police say sanitation workers found what they thought was a dismembered body in a pink bag. Officers said the initial sight of hair and intestines is what led them to believe this.

Testing by the medical examiner determined it was in fact a canine.

"It's just sad and around here you don't see none of these things you see a car accident but not nothing like this so this like hit the whole block we're upset we're hurt, who does things like this you gotta be sick to do things like that," a resident said.

Officers say this could still be a case of animal cruelty.

No word on who would be handling the investigation.

CBS3's Jasmine Payoute contributed to this report.
