Diversity In Philadelphia Highlighted At Special Luncheon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Diversity in Philadelphia was the focus Wednesday afternoon at the Philadelphia Marriot.

Over 500 hospitality professionals gathered for the 27th annual PHL Diversity Luncheon.

"We need to celebrate Philadelphia's diversity," says Gregory DeShields, executive director of PHL Diversity, "from our African American through our Hispanic, Asian, Asian Indian and most recently for us, the addition of the LGBT and women's segments."

He says Philadelphia's diverse community certainly serves an incentive for those groups to come to the city.

DeShields says the goal is to create an economic impact by highlighting Philadelphia as a city receptive to all kinds of people:

"If you look at the history of PHL Diversity since 1987, we've brought over one billion dollars of economic activity."
