District Attorney Seth Williams Responds To Ambush Gunman Being Charged

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The suspect in the ambush attack on a Philadelphia Police Officer Thursday night was formerly charged Saturday afternoon.

Thirty year old Edward Archer of Yeadon Delaware county was charged with a list of offences.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams says Officer Hartnett is blessed.

"I'm just very thankful the police officer is alive, I went to visit him at Presbyterian Hospital, I shared with him, by the grace of god, he is a live. I touched his foot and rubbed his foot for my sake, because he is clearly blessed by someone," Williams said.

Bail was denied. The next step, a preliminary hearing, which should take place within the next couple weeks.

Going forward, Williams says his role will be assigning the most veteran prosecutors to the case.

"My office is handling the case, I'm especially assigning a very seasoned and experienced prosecutor, so we can hold this defendant accountable to the fullest extent of the law."
