'Discovering The Impressionists' Now On Display At Philadelphia Museum Of Art

By RJ McKay

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Museum of Art has on display now through September 13, "Discovering The Impressionists."

Joe Rishel, senior curator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, gives an overview of the exhibition.

"The Impressionist shows we have done are a twofer. It is, dare I say, a masterpiece by a master illustration of why this has become probably the most famous, most adored, and attended in terms of the exhibitions chapter in the history of art."

Rishel says Impressionism as always big a complex chapter in art history.

"It's always been a big and complex chapter in the history of art and always will be, there will always be another slice of the pie. As it comes along, our good luck is that working with French friends, there is an archive of the dealer Durand-Ruel, which has tons of new information that has not been fully explored just because it is so dense to get through.
