Disabled Vet Receives New Bike To Help Train For Wheelchair Games

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA. (CBS) -- A disabled veteran from the Vietnam War era has a new piece of equipment to help him train for the National Veterans Wheelchair Games which will be held in Philadelphia for the first time next month.
The showroom at Conicelli Hyundai was decorated with American flags and red, white and blue balloons on Tuesday as the Collegeville chapter of the Disabled American Veterans donated a custom-built hand-operated cycle to Woody Allen. Allen, who had a leg amputated, will use the cycle to train for the hand cycling competition.
"Right now, I'm training off of someone else's bike and I only get to train but one day a week," Allen says, "and this will give me the ability to train well at least three or four days a week."
The chapter raised $3,000 to buy the bike which had to be assembled before it was donated to Allen. Over 600 Veteran athletes will be in Philadelphia next month competing in 17 events which are all free and open to the public.
