PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Wawa convenience store empire expanded in Center City this morning, with the opening of a new store at 20th and Market.

"Happy Friday! It's free coffee day today!"

Hundreds of people eager for their free coffee streamed into the Wawa as soon as it opened at 8 a.m.

Wawa's Philadelphia operations director Dave Simonetti says, "We took our opportunity to make those public comments and bring some concerns up with the city. And I think hopefully it lands in a good place."

In the meantime, customers enjoyed their free cuppa Joe.
