Detectives: Shane Montgomery's Keys Found In Schuylkill River

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Detectives and family members say the keys of missing student Shane Montgomery were discovered Sunday in the Schuylkill River.

The discovery was made just after 10 a.m. by a New Jersey dive team helping in the search

Shane's uncle, Kevin Verbrugghe, says they were found not far from a parking lot and bridge over the canal, where Shane was last seen on surveillance. But that's where the search ended for the day.

"I guess due to the fact that some of their equipment leaked, the water got to them and they had to leave the water because it got too cold."

Shane went missing early Thanksgiving morning after going out with friends the night before to celebrate his 21st birthday.

Sources told CBS earlier this month a video showed Shane walking across a bridge spanning the Manayunk Canal toward a parking lot that is next to the Schuylkill River.

Verbrugghe says investigators now have enough evidence to prove that Montgomery was on the water's edge before he disappeared.

The Garden State Underwater Recovery Unit is going to meet to discuss plans moving forward, Verbrugghe says hopefully next weekend.
