Despite Frigid Temps, Spring Mountain Ski Area Enjoying Robust Business

By Brad Segall

SPRING MOUNT, Pa. (CBS) -- Wind chill temperatures near zero degrees couldn't keep ski enthusiasts off the slopes today in Montgomery County, Pa.

And after two warmer-than-usual winters, Spring Mountain owner Rick Buckman says he'll take the colder temperatures.

Buckman says it's been business as usual, even as the mercury plunges, except for Tuesday evening, when they canceled an after-school program for teens.

Jackie, from Bridgeton, NJ, didn't let the cold get in the way of her fun.

"Iit's really chilly, but we're both bundled up," she said today.  "But I'm really bad at skiing, so it's really embarrassing."

She was there with her fiancée, Kevin, of Hammonton, NJ.

"It's really nice because the snow isn't really slushy at all," Kevin said, "and you're not slopping around and getting soaked.  It's nice and cold, and that's what you need with skiing."

All the skiers agreed: wear lots of layers, a good hat, and a face mask, and just go out and have fun despite the cold temperatures.
