Despite 20-Point Poll Deficit, Corbett Camp Says He'll Turn Gov. Race Around

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Despite a 20-point deficit in the polls, Gov. Tom Corbett's campaign says he's still in position to win a second term.

The governor's campaign manager, Mike Barley, said Wednesday that the Republican will highlight his efforts to promote job growth and fiscal responsibility, while casting Democrat Tom Wolf as a millionaire politician who wants to drastically raise taxes.

A poll released Wednesday by Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University showed Corbett trailing Wolf, 53 percent to 33 percent.

The poll also showed 55 percent of voters disapproved of Corbett's job performance — his lowest job-approval rating since Quinnipiac began tracking it in 2011, his first year in office.

Barley says he hopes Wolf is enjoying his lead because once voters get to know him, the race will change dramatically.
