Democrats Win All 3 Open Seats On Pa. Supreme Court

HARRISBURG, Pa., (CBS) -- Philadelphia Judge Kevin Dougherty and Superior Court Judges David Wecht and Christine Donohue pulled off a Democratic sweep, winning all three open seats on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, sealing a Democratic majority on the high court for years to come.

Franklin and Marshall College pollster and political analyst Terry Madonna says Democrats will have the majority in what he believes is likely to be a more partisan Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

"Because of the ideological makeup of the electorate. Because of the fact that virtually every institution in our society has become more partisan and more ideological," said Madonna.

Madonna believes the Democrats' success in the Supreme Court races is the result of better organization and more money for campaign advertising.
