Delco DA's Office Searches Chester Police Dept. Evidence Room

CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- The Chester Police Department received a visit yesterday from the Delaware County district attorney's office. Investigators came calling with a search warrant in hand.
Sources suggest the investigation stems from discovery of a missing scope from a rifle, which somehow reappeared in the room. The complaint that led to the check of the police department's evidence room has been sealed.
Delaware County DA Jack Whelan confirms that Chester mayor John Linder was given a heads-up by his office before the warrant was served.
"We talked about that this was occurring, the circumstances surrounding it," Whelan tells KYW Newsradio, "and not only was the mayor cooperative but officers freely gave statements concerning the incident."
There was no immediate word on what items were taken out of the evidence room by detectives. Whelan would only say that investigators will examine the material available to them and decide if any charges might be warranted.
