Delaware Readies For A Struggling Towson Squad

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Delaware Blue Hens will be home again on Saturday in Newark, welcoming Towson to town for a Colonial Athletic Association match-up.

Delaware is 4-2 this season, and a perfect 2-0 in the CAA, after holding off Elon last week, 34-24.

"I thought the kids came out and they played really hard, a lot of emotion, a lot of energy and were really focused," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio. "Got off to a really good start, played really solid, competitive defense the first half, holding them to three points and a bunch of stops. Offensively, we were able to get into the end zone early in the first quarter and then tack a couple more on."

Listen to the whole interview with Delaware head coach Dave Brock:

The Blue Hens on Saturday will match-up with a Towson team that is coming off an appearance in the FCS National Championship game in 2013. But the sledding has been much rougher here in 2014. The Tigers are just 2-5 and coming off a 62-7 loss last weekend on the road against James Madison.

"When you watch the game tape, it's 13-0 and it's very competitive and it's kind of back and forth," Brock says. "Then JMU comes up with a couple of turnover touchdowns, back-to-back, strip sack fumble and an interception. All of sudden it kind of bursts into a four-score game and (it) just got away from them a little bit."

Brock says despite the struggles, Towson still has talent.

"They have one of the top tailbacks in the league," Brock says. "They're breaking in a new quarterback. The offensive line they had last year when they were the national runner-up was elite, most of those guys are gone and breaking in a new front is challenging.

"Very physical defense," Brock adds. "Big, big kids up front. They really challenge you in the run game."

Last season Delaware beat Towson in a thriller down in Maryland, 32-31.

Saturday's game at Delaware Stadium kicks off at 12:30pm.
