WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- A Deputy Attorney General in Delaware has been charged with rape in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy.

Delaware authorities say they began investigating the prosecutor, 34-year-old Daniel Simmons, in March after learning of the alleged assault. Police say Simmons was arrested on Friday as soon as the investigation was concluded.

Simmons been placed on administrative leave by the Attorney General's office.

New Castle County police say Simmons met the 16-year-old through a social media app called Grindr which connects gay and bisexual men, not through his work as a Deputy Attorney General.

Police say further details are being withheld to protect the victim's identity, but they suspect there may be other victims and are urging anyone with information to contact them.
