Delaware Police: Stray Bullet Hits Sleeping Woman Overnight

NEWARK, DE (CBS) -- Police are investigating a shooting after a stray bullet hit a sleeping woman overnight in Newark, Delaware.

Around 1:30 a.m. authorities responded to the 100 block of Flamingo Drive, located inside the Sparrow Run housing development, for a report of a shooting. Officials say arriving officers found a 38-year-old woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was treated on the scene and transported to the hospital.

Investigators determined the woman had been shot while she slept inside her home. Further investigation revealed other residences and vehicles parked outside had also been hit by gunfire.

No other injuries have been reported.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call New Castle County Police at 302-573-2800.

New Castle County Police offer a reward of up to $20,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of those responsible for violent crimes they investigate.
