Delaware Mom Arrested, Charged For Leaving 2-Year-Old In Car

LEWES, De. (CBS) -- A 34-year-old Delaware woman was arrested and charged after police say she left a 2-year-old child in a parked car.

Police say that Nicole Eames, of Lewes, has been charged with reckless endangering and driving under the influence of a drug.

Authorities say they arrived at a Dollar General on July 8 around 4:45 p.m. Officials say that the two individuals who contacted authorities had removed a 2-year-old boy from an unlocked car in the parking lot.

Police say the boy was strapped into his car seat and no windows were open. The child was transported to the hospital where he was treated for dehydration.

Officials say the temperature reached a high of 94 degrees on that day.

Eames was found inside the store. Authorities say that she was driving under the influence of a prescription drug. They add that the 2-year-old may have been in the vehicle for over an hour.

Eames was released on $3,000 bond and is not allowed to have unsupervised contact with her son.
