Delaware Man Charged With Raping Woman In New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS/AP) -- A New Castle man has been charged with beating and raping a woman whom he had paid to perform a sex act.

The alleged incident occurred Tuesday morning. State Police say 20-year-old James Daniels picked up the 25-year-old woman at a gas station along the 300 block of New Castle Avenue and then drove her to a secluded area where he paid her to perform a sex act. Police say when the woman ended the act, Daniels punched her multiple times.

Authorities say the woman ran from the vehicle, but Daniels chased after her, caught her, and forced her back into the vehicle where he hit her with a baseball bat and sexually assaulted her.

Police say the woman was eventually able to escape from the vehicle and Daniels drove away with her belongings.

Daniels was arrested at his home on Friday. He was charged with rape first degree, robbery first degree, and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
