Delaware County Opens First Medical Marijuana Dispensary To Long Lines Of Customers

MORTON, Pa. (CBS) -- A medical marijuana dispensary opened its doors for the first time in Delaware County to long lines of customers on Monday. The operation of this facility had long been debated at Morton Borough meetings and they got the green light from a majority of leaders – and today was day one.

The company, Herbology Medical Cannabis Dispensary, already has close to a dozen other locations in Pennsylvania.

This is the first medical marijuana dispensary in Delaware County. It's located on the 400 block of Baltimore Pike in Morton.

There was a crowd of people there for today's grand opening.

Pennsylvania law says a patient must be certified, meeting the criteria for the condition he or she suffers from to get the medical marijuana ID card which costs $50.

Some community concerns focused on security at the facility.

"I think there's a lot of myths around this and when you actually experience and see and understand it, and understand the security and how we approach it, I think most communities get very comfortable," said Mitchell Kahn, CEO and founder of the dispensary.

Part of that security is the installation of interior and exterior surveillance systems and, today, they have the company of Morton Police.

There were no protesters there while CBS3 was at the facility.

The dispensary will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
