Delaware County SPCA Rescues Dog With Shackle Embedded In His Neck

DARBY, Pa. (CBS) – The Delaware County SPCA is looking for the person responsible for a shocking act of animal cruelty.

The organization says a friendly 8-10 month old male dog was found in Darby early Thursday morning with a shackle embedded in his lower neck.

The dog, named Trooper, was also severely emaciated – the SPCA says he weighs nearly half of what he should. He appears to be a mastiff or a Great Dane.

Trooper reportedly underwent emergency surgery to remove the shackle and reconstruct his neck. He's currently recovering at the SPCA, which is accepting donations here for his care.

Anyone with information on the person responsible should contact Delco Humane Society Police Officer Ron Riggle at 610-566-1370 x 214 or rriggle@delcospca.org.

The Delco SPCA is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for harming Trooper.
