Delaware County DA Honors Two Groups That Support Crime Victims

MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) -- As part of Victims Rights Week, Delaware County officials today honored two organizations that work, quietly, on behalf of crime victims.
One, the AIDS Care Group, raises money for medicine and counsels crime victims who might have been exposed to HIV.

The other, Andrea's Attic -- a Marcus Hook thrift shop opened by Lesley Lane (center of top photo), the mother of a murdered girl -- not only donates items to victims but food to the needy and scholarships to high school students.
Delaware County district attorney Jack Whelan says groups like this are vital.
"But for your commitment to the victims in Delaware County, we could not be successful in our prosecutions," he told representatives of the two organizations. He said they played a part in easing the pain of those thrust into the criminal justice system through no fault of their own.
Lane, founder of Andrea's Attic, readily admitted that she couldn't do it without a lot of help.
"People who volunteer, day in and day out, throughout this country are the silent majority of strength," she said.
