Accused Attempted Murderer Turns Self In After Being 'Erroneously' Released From Delaware Courthouse

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- An accused attempted murderer in Delaware has turned himself after he was "erroneously" released on Wednesday morning.

Dion Oliver, 38, was accidentally released from custody at the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington around 10:45 a.m.

Oliver was previously charged with attempted murder, organized crime and racketeering, assault and other similar charges, and was being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown.

Oliver turned himself into the Wilmington Police Department around 4:30 p.m. as federal, state and local authorities were searching for him. Oliver contacted an off-duty Wilmington officer who negotiated with the prisoner to turn himself in.

Authorities say the circumstances surrounding Oliver's release are being investigated.
