A Deal To Save Atlantic City From Bankruptcy?

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) - There are signs that a deal may be in the works to save Atlantic City from bankruptcy just days before the casino resort runs out of money.

There are published suggestions that a deal may be at hand. NJ.com reports a North Jersey Assemblyman was told that a tentative agreement is in place.

Sources in both the Assembly and Senate, contacted by KYW Newsradio, declined to confirm the report.

What we know for sure is that talks are going on with leaders in both the Assembly and Senate to try to break the impasse caused by Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto's inability to garner enough votes for his own state takeover plan and another already cleared by the senate. That one would be approved by Governor Chris Christie.

Senate President Steve Sweeney has offered a compromise that would give Atlantic City 150 days to get its house in order, so to speak, before the state would step in.

Christie has indicated he would consider that, if the measure gets to his desk.
