Police Investigate Deadly Shooting In Northeast Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating a deadly shooting in the Northeast section of the city. The incident took place early on Tuesday afternoon.
Several individuals were at Police Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon explaining what they know. Police say two weapons were recovered at the scene, one next to the victim, possibly even belonging to the victim.
Philadelphia Police received calls around 12:30 p.m. in relation to this shooting. An man in his late 20's was reportedly shot at least once in the head. Neighbors say they heard many more shots.
"It sounded like fireworks, like bop, bop, bop, bop, so it was more than one," said Apache Gallagher.
The sounds heard near Higbee and Ditman Streets in the Northeast were immediately recognizable because they have been heard there before.
"I need all new roofs because of the bullet holes. This neighborhood has gone down the tubes and I mean down," said one neighbor.
Lt. Mel Williams tells Eyewitness News the victim was found in a driveway behind a home and that detectives had several people at Police Headquarters, but would not elaborate on their identities.
"We do have people here that we're talking to," Lt. Williams said.
As police collected evidence, and processed the scene, nearby Lawton Elementary School was placed on lock down. This prompted neighbors who heard the shots to question what if the shooting had happened just hours later?
"It's just, we got brothers and little kids out here that like to play, but today is not the day for them to come outside," said Lachelle Wallace.
Authorities say that the people that police are talking to includes the shooter. At this point, no one has been named a suspect.
