Man Found Dead, Another Arrested Following Fight Over Noise In South Philadelphia, Police Say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police are investigating after a man was found dead following a fight over a noise complaint in South Philadelphia. It happened just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday on the 1500 block of Jackson Street. Police say the location is a rooming house.

According to police, a 63-year-old man, who lived on the second floor of the home, went down to the basement to confront a 26-year-old man about being too loud - possibly about loud music.

Investigators say the two men got into a fight and at some point, the older man fell. The 63-year-old man was found dead in the basement.

Authorities are trying to determine the cause of death.

"Whether he was punched or pushed, we don't know. We know there was a physical altercation, according to witnesses," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. "We know that the 26-year-old, who had the physical altercation with the 63-year-old, we're told that male does stay in the basement, occasionally. Now, we don't know if it's his permanent address, but we believe he may sometimes hangout or stay in the basement."

Officers arrested the 26-year-old man and at least three eyewitnesses are being questioned.
