Deadline Tightens For Comcast Cable Franchise Agreement In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Philadelphia City Council committee met Thursday morning to consider Comcast's cable franchise agreement for the city, but immediately recessed and rescheduled a hearing for the afternoon.

The committee is up against a deadline to get the agreement approved this year. Under council rules, the committee has to pass the agreement before council adjourns today in order to get it voted on before the term ends.

So council will recess after its regular business, the committee will reconvene to review the agreement one more time and -- if it passes then -- council will resume its session so the bill can have its required first reading.

Henon says council is still interested in easing access to the low-cost internet essentials service and making sure Comcast subcontractors pay family wages.
