Daughter Of Elderly Woman Robbed, Shot In Face Describes Horror Attack

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Northeast Detectives are still working leads some six days after an elderly woman who was violently attacked recovers after she was shot in the face.

The 75-year-old victim's daughter, Donna, says even though her mother is still in pain, she can't wait to return to Forest Elementary in Mayfair, where she's volunteered for nearly two decades.

Police say a man in his late 20s, driving a silver car, followed the senior citizen an alleyway on Erdrick Street on New Year's Eve as she walked home from a nearby grocery store.

He wanted her handbag but she said no and fought back.

That's when he shot her.

Bleeding and injured, the elderly victim composed herself and walked the four blocks home, even putting her groceries away before getting help.

"I opened the door and I seen her and I was like oh my god. I screamed and she was of course full of blood. It was horrible," Donna told Eyewitness News. "I was chasing her around the house, trying to get her to sit down because she was worried about the food. I was like Ma, you're bleeding. You have to sit down."

Donna says the guy stole her Mom's cell phone, destroyed her new glasses and snatched $400 she had just cashed from her paycheck.

"That's her money and that scumbag took it," she said.

And that's why faculty at Forest Elementary are collecting cash for their beloved volunteer as her family prays police figure out who the violent attacker is.

"I want him never to come out and do this to anybody else's mother, grandmother, brother, sister, anybody," Donna said. "I want him caught. I want him caught."

Detectives say they're holding a press conference Thursday morning, where they will release surveillance video of the suspect's vehicle.
