Darby Borough Police Officer Laid To Rest

By John McDevitt

COLLINGDALE, Pa. (CBS) -- A Darby Borough police officer, who was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend last week, was laid to rest Saturday in Delaware County.

A viewing for officer Mark Hudson was held at Saint Joseph's Church in Collingdale. It was followed by a multi-denominational funeral service, where it was revealed that the officer, always concerned with the needs of others, was an donor and his eyes were donated to help someone else see.

"You know Mark is leaving a legacy, he was a strong man, a strong African-American man, you know we hear so many bad things." Said Kelly Cornish, a close family friend. "He is a good story. He was a good story. He was a hero."

Officer Hudson was employed by the Darby Borough Police Department for the past four years. He was a junior volunteer firefighter at the age of 16 and lieutenant by 19 at the Yeadon Fire Company.

Officer Hudson's coffin was loaded on to a Yeadon fire truck and taken to the Mount Zion Cemetery for burial.
