DA: Former Nurse Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Patient At Rehab Center In Lehigh County

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (CBS) – Authorities say a Quakertown man, who was a nurse at a Bethlehem rehabilitation center, has been charged with sexually assaulting a nonverbal patient.

Officials say 45-year-old- Robert Poindexter is charged with assaulting the 50-year-old patient, who has extremely limited movement.

The alleged assault took place on May 31, 2013 at Manor Care located on 2029 Westgate Drive in Bethlehem.

According to the DA, a witness saw the alleged assault and the immediately reported her observations to a supervisor and to law enforcement.

Officials say the director of nursing services was notified and directed that the patient be assessed, and the suspect be kept away from other patients. Bethlehem police were also notified and the victim was taken to a hospital for an examination.

Authorities say Poindexter is charged with one count of aggravated indecent assault.

He was arraigned in Lehigh County on January 5, 2015 and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
